For the biography option of your assignment, select Online Databases from the library homepage. Then, select either Current Biography Illustrated (EBSCO), Gale Virtual Reference Library, or Encyclopedia Britannica (the one you feel most comfortable using and gives you the best results for your individual). The screenshots below provide a brief tutorial on how to search for biographies in these databases.

Biography Reference Bank (EBSCO)
To search for a name, start to type in their first or last name. If there is an entry in the database, their name will automatically appear in a list. You can then select the name from this list.
If you do not have a specific person in mind, but you do have a career in mind (nurse, teacher, accountant), from the main database page, select “Advanced Search.”
On the right side of the first search box, click on the dropdown menu and select “Occupations.” In the search box, type your occupation.
Gale Virtual Reference Library
From the database homepage, on the left side, select “Biography.”
On the search box in the upper right corner, type in either the name of a person, or the career/occupation in which you are interested.
If you got too many results that are not relevant to your topic, you can search the list of subjects on the left hand side. If you want to reduce your results to only those grouped under “Nurses,” for example, then select the subject heading that most closely matches your chosen occupation.
From the database homepage, you will need to enter separate login information. Please see a librarian to obtain this information.
From the homepage, select Biographies.
From here, under “By Subject,” you can use the Topic dropdown menu to search for your career or occupation. This will give you a list of biographies of individuals categorized under that occupation.
If you already know the person you’d like to search for, you can search for them directly in the search box (at the top of the page) and click “Go.” You could also select “By Name” at the top of the page and then select the first letter of their last name.
